Belt and Hose replacement

Service Overview

Worn belts and hoses are the primary cause of many vehicle breakdowns, especially with most vehicles today relying on a single serpentine belt to run all vehicle accessory components. The serpentine belt, in turn, relies on the energy of your engine to power the alternator, air conditioning system, and alternator. The problem with serpentine belts, especially in the Northeast regions of the United States, is they dry out and crack, which will leave you stranded with a non-functioning vehicle. Regular inspection and replacement can prevent breakdowns caused by a degrading serpentine chain.

How can I tell when I need the service?

It is difficult for a driver to ascertain whether there has been any wear and tear on a serpentine chain, because hoses typically wear from the inside out. For instance, a degraded hose may not always leak, but upon pinching cracks and brittleness can be detected. A good rule of thumb if you live in the Northeast is to have your serpentine chain inspected during each of your full-service oil changes.

What is included with the service?

A full visual inspection of all belts and hoses is performed automatically with every premium service oil change. If your vehicle's serpentine belt shows more than three cracks per inch in its ribbed area and/or cracks which go through more than 50% of the belt's thickness, it should be replaced.
