I made the mistake of first going to Mavis Tire because it is right nearby. I made an appt for 9am. At 9:45am my car had not moved from where I parked it and it didn’t look like it was going to anytime soon. I called Fishkill Tire and they set an appt for later today at 2p. I took my keys back and left. So much for appts at Mavis. By 2:50p, FK Tire was finishing up! Well worth the 20 minutes drive. I’ve gone to them over the years and always had a great experience! I learned my lesson with chains. For now on its only Fishkill Tire for me!

While other auto places believe you couldn't possibly understand what your car needs and will take advantage of you every chance they get, the staff at Fishkill Tire and Auto Repair are respectful, friendly and professional. Bill is a Super Disrespectful and Rude Owner! I can’t believe it. (My full review is on their Facebook page, as it unfortunately doesn't fit on Google, so I will just summarize here). One minor issue I had in the past was when I had a gas leak, Don had told me that he thought I should just sell my car because it would end up costing too much to fix it, and they don’t usually work on cars as old as mine there. (Of course I thought that was a very strange comment for a mechanic shop to say, and for people like me who don’t have money for another car, we have to fix what we have. I wasn’t too happy about his seemingly unenthusiastic demeanor to help me). Ultimately, I just let that comment go. I had found somewhere else local to replace my gas tank at a much more affordable price and who at least seemed like they wanted to help me. I went in to Fishkill Tire & Auto Repair last Monday to get a steering fluid leak repaired. A family member told me it was the pressure line leaking, so I purchased the part at AutoZone ahead of time. I asked Fishkill Tire if it was ok for me to bring the part I purchased, and they said it was fine. Everything was looked over and they said I needed a return line too. I asked if the steering fluid pump was good and had no leaks and they said it was perfectly fine. In the end when I went to pick up the car, the lady at the front desk seemed to think it was weird for my mom to ask if they could show us the old part. (Tip: It’s always best to have mechanics show you the old parts, and show you the work they did on your car, just to prove that they actually replaced them, there are some rip offs out there who will tell you they fixed something when they didn’t. And any decent shop will show you the old parts and new parts replaced without a problem, even without you asking). After I was able to have the very nice mechanic show me the work he did, I also asked him if the pump was working well and had no leaks and he said no, that it was perfectly fine. I turned on and steered my car and noticed it still made the noise. (This noise always went away when I would refill the fluid when it had the leak). Went back inside, talked to Bill, and he told me that it should stop making the noise after I drive the car a few days to let the fluid run through, if not that I would need to probably replace the steering fluid pump. To make this long story a bit shorter...in the end my car was still making the noise. I was told I could bring it in this week to be dropped off and checked, but when I got there Bill told me I needed my steering fluid pump replaced without even looking at my car. I asked to have the mechanic who worked on my car check it again thoroughly because he told me there was nothing wrong with the pump the last time. Bill gave me an attitude right away and started raising his voice at me that I shouldn't have brought in my own part because that's not how they do business there, gave me a quote for about $200 in labor to have the pump replaced, plus said I would have to pay for the pump. Finally let me bring my car to the front of the garage, the nice mechanic looked at it again, he told me that he could just flush the steering fluid through that maybe it was just dirt buildup in the pump. Bill kept complaining it was the pump and my mom asked him why they didn't tell me that the first time then. Then he was yelling at both my mom and I being defensive repeating I shouldn't have brought my own part to save money etc. I told him I didn’t appreciate him being rude and giving me and my mom an attitude raising his voice, and that I’ve been a returning customer for years and never had a major problem, and I told him he’s certainly going to lose all of his customers if he talks to them like that, it’s very unprofessional. I went right inside to talk to the lady at the desk to ask for the manager, and she told me that Bill is the owner. I couldn’t believe it, I told her the whole story right in front of their other customers, hopefully that warned them about Bill’s lousy attitude. I won't return!

When I went outside to check my car with the mechanic I did notice that my doors were unlocked and wasn’t too happy that they left it open in the side of their parking lot and anyone could have just gone inside (they left the doors open at least once in the past as well but I figured I’d show them grace this time and not say anything, at least I hadn’t left anything really valuable in it). The mechanic who worked on my car was very polite, and it didn’t seem to bother him at all that I wanted him to show me what he worked on. I asked him now that he replaced those parts if he was sure that there was nothing wrong with the steering fluid pump, and he told me no, that the pump was working perfectly fine, no leaks or anything. He even told me that my car is in really good shape for its age and that I should keep it, being that it’s a Toyota and they last forever as long as you keep up with regular maintenance, (as I know from experience with them). After he left and I got my receipt, I turned on my car, and the minute I was steering it out of the parking space, it was making the loud noise again, as if the steering fluid was low again. I knew it wasn’t since the mechanic just showed me that it was full. I went inside and told the guy at the desk, Bill, that I still heard the noise and I asked him if it had anything to do with the fact that they just replaced the pressure and return lines. He told me yeah probably, and that it might just need some time of me driving it for the fluid to run through. My mom had already left so I figured I’d take Bill’s word and drive the car a few days. Of course a few days passed and it was still making the noise. I called to ask if I could drop off the car again the next week to have the mechanic look at my car again since I still heard the noise, and the woman took notes and told me I could drop it off to have it checked. Today I brought the car with my mom, thinking they would let me drop it off to have it thoroughly checked and diagnosed again. Instead, Bill told me right off the bat, without even looking at my car, that it was the steering fluid pump that needed to be replaced if it was still making the noise, and that he noticed it was leaking around it last time. (He never told me it was leaking the last time). I explained to him that the mechanic who worked on my car specifically told me the pump was working fine with no leaks and I asked if he could check it again. Bill was clearly annoyed with me telling me NO NO NO that it’s the pump and that he looked at the car himself also… and he gave me a price quote of about $200 just for labor and told me I’d also have to pay for the pump. Again I told him to please let me have the mechanic check it to make sure because I’m not going to spend extra money on something if I don’t have to. (I’m not naive enough that I’ll just take someone’s word for it just like that). Then he raised his voice a bit with an attitude complaining that I shouldn’t have brought my own part the last time because that’s not how they do business there, and that he told the mechanic to recommend that I needed a steering fluid pump also in the beginning and he must have forgot, yadayada…and he finally told me I could being the car around to the front of the garage so they could take a quick look at it. Once I did that, the nice mechanic guy who worked on my car came out to look at it, and he said it might be possible that I’ll have to replace my fuel pump, but he might be able to just flush the steering fluid, that maybe there’s just dirt in there. I was going to agree to have him do that, but Bill was standing there still complaining that it had to be the fuel pump. My mom asked him if it was the fuel pump, why didn’t they tell me before. That’s when Bill really started yelling at both of us complaining and being defensive again that I shouldn’t have brought my own part to save myself money, and they don’t do business like that. He basically kept trying to blame everything on me. Bill completely talked down to me. It’s not the first time I’ve had mechanic shop people talk down to me as a woman thinking I don’t know anything. I told him I didn’t appreciate him being rude and giving me and my mom an attitude raising his voice, and that I’ve been a returning customer for years and never had a major problem, and I told him he’s certainly going to lose all of his customers if he talks to them like that, it’s very unprofessional. I went right inside to talk to the lady at the desk to ask for the manager, and she told me that Bill is the owner. I couldn’t believe it, I told her the whole story right in front of their other customers, hopefully that warned them about Bill’s lousy attitude too. I will never go to Fishkill Tire & Auto Repair, Inc. again! If Bill was a regular employee I’m sure he would be fired, he still should be if he could. Instead of keeping the five star rating I graciously gave to them in the past, I am giving them one star (would give them ZERO if I could). They lost me as a customer for life. And instead of recommending people to them as I had in the past, I will be warning people NOT to go to them. No sense in paying any company your hard earned money when they don’t even care about their customers well being! I’ll take my business elsewhere from now on. I hope any of the nice employees don’t put up with Bill’s nonsense and find someone nice to work for too.
